The Tampa Bay Rays will be without Jeremy Hellickson to start the 2014 season. The team confirmed on Monday that the 26-year-old had arthroscopic elbow surgery last week and is expected to be out until mid-to-late May. Hellickson posted a 12-10 record with a 5.17 earned-run average and a 1.351 WHIP for the Rays in 2013. The 2011 American League Rookie of the Year logged a career-low 174 innings as a rotation regular, while his ERA and WHIP reached career highs. He lasted just one inning in his lone post-season start, retiring the side in the first inning of Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox. He would be lifted in the second, however, after allowing the first three batters of the inning to reach base.
