It is the return of the UFC to Vancouver. We had Tom Wright on the “Weigh In” Radio show on TSN Radio 1290 to talk with us about Canada and the role we play in MMA. Its exciting to think that Canada is a leader in the sport. Thats the reason weve got Jones vs Gustafsson in Toronto. Vancouver will be the battle ground for a title fight, and for a few guys trying to keep their jobs in the UFC. That means fans should be treated to some solid action in the cage. Outside the cage, this article has me @fitcityjordan going toe to toe with @WebSodaGirl Gabby McAlpine. Wed love for you to chime in on social media. #TeamJC or #TeamGabzilla. Let us know and let @TSN_Sports know you love MMA. Demetrious Johnson (19-2-1) vs Ali Bagautinov (13-2-0) JC: Demetrious Johnson is just really good at MMA. He is all around with his ability to wrestle and strike. Hes the champ right now, and its because he is a talent. Watch him out strike, out point, and out game plan Bagautinov. Johnson has earned stoppages in his last two fights, and in my opinion those two athletes were more of a standout challenge than Bagautinov. The challenger is still dangerous, but I think Johnson is on another level. Gabzilla: Demetrious Johnson will win. I like him, and hes been looking really good his whole career. So its a simple choice. Johnson stays champ. Rory MacDonald (16-2-0) vs Tyron Woodley (13-2-0) JC: Im pretty sure this one is going to be a barn burner. Remember the old Rory MacDonald? The one who got all the hype, the one who was supposed to challenge the likes of GSP for talent? Well, if he doesnt show up, Woodley will run him over. Anything less than the best MacDonald we have ever seen cant handle Tyron Woodleys athleticism. Honestly, I dont think even a top notch MacDonald can. The Canadian is coming off four fights having gone to decision; Woodley has stopped his last two fights. I see Woodley pushing the pace and ending this one in the third. Gabzilla: Rory is always hungry, too hungry sometimes but I dont think he will be able to handle the raw power of Woodley. Woodley will ultimately be the winner here. Ryan Bader (16-4-0) vs Rafael Cavalcante (12-4-0) JC: Nothing says great fight like a highly skilled pair of strikers, with enough ground game to keep things interesting. As always, if Cavalcante can come in clean, I think he wins this one by being the higher skilled athlete. There is room on this card for a fight of the night, and I think this will be it. Im looking forward to these two athletes fighting for their jobs, or at least making their way up the rankings in the top 10. I personally think Cavalcante has the skill to make a push for top five, and it will start here with a KO of Bader. Gabzilla: Bader will win this one. I just love his intensity and I think he will win by strikes. His last fight was amazing and I think he wants to keep going with that streak Brendan Schaub (10-3-0) vs Andrei Arlovski (21-10-0) JC: I was at the match when Arlovski fought Fedor. The whole arena went silent watching Arlovski use his technical striking to control the best of the best. That is until he dropped his hands and jumped chin first at the best power puncher in the world. That pretty much sums up Arlovski. Amazing skill, coupled with the amazing ability to make a massive mistake that costs himself the fight. He hasnt looked sharp yet in his fights, but he hasnt looked bad either. All that negative and youd think Id say Schaub is going to get this. I dont think that will be the case. Arlovski will control the stand up early, Schaub will go for the take down. Once this is on the ground, I think the Russian Sambo specialist will surprise Schaub. Arlovski will get a submission to end the night. Gabzilla: Schaub should take this one. I think he will win by submission; he is out to prove himself as an elite grappler since his performance at Metamoris. Metamoris: Schaub vs Cyborg was a bad showing for Brendan, but since then Schuab has been out to prove the haters wrong. Steve Grogan Youth Jersey . Paul, MN (SportsNetwork. The four-time MVP was in good spirits when he made his first public appearance on the field since having neck surgery Sept.NEW YORK -- For once, Derek Carr didnt emulate his older brother. David Carr was the top overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft, the first player ever taken by the Houston Texans. Derek, who also went to Fresno State and, like his elder brother enters the league with a wife and child, went 36th overall when Oakland selected him in the second round Friday night. Eleven years younger than David, Derek Carr also must hope he gets better protection with the Raiders than David did with Houston. David Carr never reached the expectations of a No. 1 pick, in great part because he was sacked so often during his time with the Texans. "I learned everything that he did right and everything that he did wrong," Derek Carr said. "He told me that if he could do anything, he hopes he made the path smoother for me as I transition into the NFL." Derek Carr rewrote the Bulldogs record book, throwing for more than 10,000 yards and 100 touchdown passes. He led Fresno State to consecutive Mountain West Conference titles in his final two seasons and passed for 5,082 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2013. He guided a spread offence that relied on his quick decision making, fast release and ability to move in the pocket. All in a season where his son was born with a serious problem with his intestines a month before he stepped on the field. Oakland acquired veteran Matt Schaub to be its starter, but he will get a serious push from Carr. In other early picks Friday: -- Houston had 20 hours to think about the first pick of the second round, then went for a blocker. To barely a whimper of reaction from the Radio City MMusic Hall crowd, the Texans selected UCLA guard Xavier Sua-Filo.ddddddddddddHe joins the first overall pick, defensive disrupter Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina, in Houston. The two of them can have fun colliding against each other in minicamps and training camp. The 6-foot-4, 307-pound Sua-Filo, who went on a Mormon mission while in college, also has played tackle. -- The Cowboys took Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, who they hope will emulate their departed sacks leader with the same first name, DeMarcus Ware, now with Denver. "Im my own Demarcus," Lawrence said. "I dont like to try to be nobody else. Im going to be me, and Im going to do it well." -- Cleveland, more active than any team in the first round, added a protector for Johnny Manziel by grabbing guard Joel Bitonio of Nevada, who also can play tackle or centre. The Browns caused the biggest stir on opening night when they traded up to No. 22 to get Johnny Football. "I think hes a heck of a quarterback," Bitonio said. "Hopefully, he comes in and hes ready to compete and just ready to work and do well for the Cleveland Browns." The teams already were busy on the trade block, with five in the first 75 minutes of the second round. There were only five all through the opening round on Thursday. It took 54 selections, a draft record, for a running back to go. Bishop Sankey of Washington was chosen by the Titans, who cut Chris Johnson this spring. Two more went in the next three selections: Jeremy Hill of LSU to Cincinnati, and Carlos Hyde of Ohio State to San Francisco. ' ' '
